CSW69 / Beijing+30 Virtual Parallel Event “Women’s Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons”

During the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, the Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons and Soka Gakkai International will co-organize a virtual parallel event “Women’s Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons”, to mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to share information and inspiration for making your voices heard for creating a world free of nuclear weapons.


The event will highlight the annual Nuclear Prayer Day (6 August) as an opportunity for global action.


Speakers include:

  • Ambassador Maritza Chan Valverde, Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations (invited)

  • Ela Gandhi, Gandhi Development Trust and Phoenix Settlement Trust

  • Kehkashan Basu, Green Hope Foundation

  • Kathleen Burkinshaw, author of The Last Cherry Blossom, and daughter of a hibakusha

  • Audrey Kitagawa, International Academy for Multicultural Cooperation

  • Susi Snyder, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons
